Crossing the Passerella sulle Cassandre and walking among the terraces

Surrendering to the rhythm of calm

What is it that slows and stretches time? Beauty, stillness, a slow breath, a quiet step. Crossing the Passerella sulle Cassandre – 145 metres long and suspended 100 metres above the Mallero stream – brings back the emotion of seeing that everything changes, while remaining itself.

Whether on foot or by bicycle, this route invites you to truly look around, without hurry, with gratitude, and with the comforting awareness of being enveloped by something greater than ourselves. This footbridge connects two small hamlets: Mossini and Ponchiera. Le Cassandre are the gorges into which the Mallero stream plunges as it leaves Valmalenco, and here it arrives to rest, finally at peace.

Nearby, you can walk a stretch of the terraced vineyard path, which climbs among the dry-stone walls of the vineyards, reaching Montagna in Valtellina. Visiting the terraces inspires a deep sense of admiration for human ingenuity, which together with the mountain has succeeded, over the centuries, in building something truly unique. The dry-stone walls speak of toil, dedication and harmony with nature; the rows of Valtellina Nebbiolo speak of identity, of agricultural culture and of knowledge passed down through time.
