Savouring a dish cooked in a lavéc

The joy of gathering around the family hearth

The mountain is rock, primitive nature that rises, defines and protects. But when rock changes shape, it can become home, warmth, flavour, memory. This is what happens with the working of soapstone, an ancient art that requires skill and mastery, and transforms a piece of mountain into an everyday object.

The lavéc – a traditional cooking pot from the province of Sondrio, crafted from soapstone – is renowned for its exceptional cooking properties and durability. It heats slowly, retains heat steadily and for a long time, ensuring a slow, healthy and flavourful cooking process, particularly for traditional soups and stews. In Valmalenco and Valchiavenna, several soapstone quarries can still be found.

Cooking with the lavéc takes us back in time, reminding us of the privilege of being able to slow down, wait and savour the small moments around which, over the years, the traditions of the hearth have been built.

Bites of Valtellina Flavours

The finishing touch

If you use Valtellina Bresaola PGI in a recipe, add it only at the very end of cooking so as not to alter its flavour and aroma, preserving its texture as much as possible.
