Crossing the suspension bridges

Fear and freedom between sky and earth

Taking the first step onto a Tibetan bridge takes courage, balanced between fear and desire. With every new step, the body releases adrenaline, the heart beats faster, the lungs expand with air, the blood rushes through the veins. And you feel nature’s gaze upon you, urging you forward. Bold, curious, ambitious: that is how Mother Nature shaped us, and that is how she still wants us, when she looks us in the eye.
The Ponte nel Cielo is a majestic 234-metre pedestrian walkway, suspended at 140 metres above the ground, connecting the two sides of the valley: Campo Tartano and the mountain hamlet of Frasnino. Walking up there, between sky and earth, is a little like flying, gliding with your eyes from the Campo saddle to the peaks of the Rhaetian Alps, across the green valley and all the way to Lake Como.
Not to be missed in Valchiavenna is the Tibetan Bridge of the Caurga della Rabbiosa, between Campodolcino and Fraciscio, which spans a deep gorge with sheer vertical walls, through which the Rabbiosa stream flows.
Feeling the shivers on your skin and letting the beauty of the landscape wash over you transforms people, for a moment, into eagles, proud and sure soaring above the peaks. An experience that invites you to truly feel every step you take.

Bites of Valtellina Flavours

The taste of buckwheat

At the heart of everything is buckwheat, also known as formentone nero: a resilient plant introduced to the valley in the seventeenth century and cultivated here ever since. This rustic grain has shaped the flavour and food culture of the Alps.
